From Trash to Treasure: Creative Upcycling Ideas for Little Ones
I don’t know about you, but I tend to have things around my house that people might consider “trash”. Okay, even I might consider trash. But, turns out there are TONS of cute crafts that you can make with those items around your house! So, let me tell you about them! Because, they’re kinda cool!
1. DIY Cardboard Box Playhouse: Grab those old cardboard boxes and turn them into the cutest little playhouse for your kids. With some paint, markers, and whatever else you can think of, you can create castles, rocket ships, or cozy cottages. Let your little ones decorate their new playhouse with stickers, fabric scraps, and anything else they fancy!
2. Tin Can Planters: Give used tin cans a new lease on life by turning them into charming planters. Clean the cans thoroughly, then let your kids paint them with vibrant colors and patterns. Once dry, fill them with soil and plant some seeds or small plants. It's a great way to teach children about gardening and responsibility while adding a touch of greenery to your home.
3. Fabric Scrap Stuffed Animals: Got a pile of old fabric scraps lying around? Then turn them into adorable stuffed animals! Help them cut out simple shapes like circles, squares, and triangles, then let them sew or glue the pieces together to create their own unique creatures. Add buttons for eyes and noses, and voila – you've got a whole menagerie of cuddly friends!
4. Mason Jar Lanterns: Repurpose empty mason jars into cool lanterns for outdoor adventures. Paint the jars with translucent paint or glue tissue paper to the outside for a stained glass effect. Place a tea light or LED candle inside to finish it off!
5. T-shirt Tote Bags: Give old t-shirts new life by turning them into reusable tote bags. Simply cut off the sleeves and neckline, then stitch the bottom closed to create a bag shape. Your kids can decorate the bags with fabric markers or iron-on patches for a personalized touch!
So there you go! A few super fun crafts that you can make with things you probably already have, and, you’re also being sustainable! Whoop whoop! 🙌🤩
